today, all the water on earth is undergoing irreversible changes. in different parts of the world, glaciers are disappearing, permafrost is melting, sea level is rising, oceans are acidifying. by using the world's water as a vehicle for economic growth, we cancel our own tomorrow. we will win the plastic garbage islands of the "seventh continent", but we will lose the coral reefs and the 46,000 glaciers in the himalayan region that start the rivers that carry life for billions of people. and billions of other life forms. everything is happening at breakneck speed.

these phenomena take place on too large a scale, they are unfathomable, and we simply cannot perceive the magnitude of the changes taking place. on the other hand, these phenomena are also  uncomfortable to see or admit, we don't want to see them.
