video series “agentic glass landscapes“ is the first preparatory exercise for shifting our perspective towards the era of post-anthropocene.
as an artist, i aim to step down from the creator-pedestal and position myself on the playground as an equal partner with material. i have given up forcing glass into the mould, i.e., a form i predetermined, and invited material to a dialogue. a more precise definition of my master’s thesis from a post-anthropocentric view is a collaborative artistic project in which glass has equally important authorship alongside me, with several contributors in the background.
through the video, i offer the viewer the opportunity to perceive the world of matter and observe how the glass, awakened by a human and then set free, takes control of its behaviour – moving and showing its vibrant force. this dynamic interaction between humans and glass alludes to a hyperobject-dimension outside the human-centered scale, a realm of existence we are unaware of but cannot deny. in both cases, I aim to evoke the feeling that humans are part of immeasurably large interconnected actor-networks, with glass as an active and intriguing participant.
video series “agentic glass landscapes“ is part of elle kannike’s master’s thesis that she defended at estonian academy of arts in june 2024 (supervisor juss heinsalu and advisor holger loodus).
