TOUCH-SENSITIVE CONVERSATIONS I, II, III
installation with 3 glass objects, 2024
technique – glassblowing,
materials – glass and copper,
measurements – one object approximately 170 x 15 cm
authors: elle kannike and glass
actors: glassblower eili soon, electricity, metal, air, newspaper, gravity, centrifugal force etc.
the second preparatory exercise for shifting our perspective towards the era of post-anthropocene.
i intended to get as close to the glass as possible, so the objects were born from the direct contact of my body surface and that of the glass. i gave up using tools such as a glass blowing pipe, jacks, tweezers and a saw for more immediate communication. the pieces are blown directly onto the copper pipe. the form was born during the touch-sensitive moment of coming into contact with my palms and the surface of the glass. as a protective measure, i held a wet newspaper and used gloves; for one object, i also gave up gloves.
i invite the viewer to interpret the polylogue during which the glass objects were born. one can "read" works of art through the wordless common language we had with glass, that is, touch.
installation is part of elle kannike’s master’s thesis that she defended at estonian academy of arts in june 2024 (supervisor juss heinsalu and advisor holger loodus).
